Field Trips

Field Trips at Grace Heritage Ranch, Rio Grande Valley TX

We understand the importance of education. Our teaching journey began with developing instruction for our own homeschooled children 25 years ago. We’ve attended State-sponsored workshops designed to help educators teach children about agriculture, conservation, and animals. Students love our outdoor classroom because they enjoy the experience while learning. Our objective is to provide a unique educational environment for students to learn in our natural surroundings.

School trips in Rio Grande ValleyGHR field trips focus on three learning modalities:

1. Auditory (hearing, speaking)
2. Visual (seeing, reading)
3. Kinesthetic (touch, do, draw, write)

Grace Heritage Ranch offers the opportunity for students to involve their senses and use of each of these modalities to experience the ranch with hands-on opportunities. Students become more aware of the world around them as they learn that people drink milk from cows, goats, and other animals. A whole new world is opened up as they try their hand at milking a goat (spring field trip only).

Your guided field trip consists of 2 1/2 action-packed hours of learning fun. Classes are scheduled to rotate among stations to ensure each group gets the same great experience. We communicate the importance of agriculture and offers students real life experiences though interaction with farm and ranch animals, honeybees, and reptiles.

SPRING – Our Ranch Tour Field Trip

Field trips in Rio Grande ValleyPre-Kindergarten to High School, come out to laugh, learn, and experience Grace Heritage Ranch. We can tailor your tour to your student needs, current studies, and grade level. Just ask us if you want to incorporate something in particular.

Field trips in Rio Grande ValleyRegular tours are about 2 ½ hours long, but shorter or longer tours can be requested. We can accommodate as many students as you have in your group!!

We begin with everyone together in our Welcome Center barn and teaching about our reptiles. Then, with small groups, we begin on the tour outside the barn and work our way through our learning “stations” along the 1/4 mile path. We accommodate large groups by splitting them into smaller groups and rotating them through our stations. The stations include:

  • Reptiles (already completed with everyone together in the barn)
  • Cattle/donkeys
  • Goats/sheep
  • Milking a goat
  • Chickens/Turkeys
  • Honeybees

We have fun at each area by interacting with the animals, and we also want the student to learn, so there is also some teaching time built in!!

It’s typical for schools to arrive around 9 AM, and our tour lasts about 2 ½ hours which takes us to lunch time. For lunch, schools have either gone to another location (usually pizza), brought their own lunch here, or had Chick-fil-A cater out here from Harlingen. (We have that contact information if you need it). Schools then leave after lunch. Longer or shorter field trips can be arranged.
